Description
The Ugears Aero Clock is powered by gravity: a weighted bag filled with sand or salt slowly descends and drives the mechanism. The falling weight turns the main gear, which transfers motion through the gear train to the escapement. The hour and minute discs rotate counterclockwise beneath a fixed pointer to indicate the time. A playful “cuckoo” feature takes the form of a hot-air balloon that descends when the hour strikes and rises again over the following hour. Building the model demonstrates the basic principles of pendulums, escapements and mechanical timekeeping while producing an unusual decorative clock inspired by the early age of aviation.
